Iowa-based Hy-Vee Inc. has issued a voluntary recall of a limited quantity of "Hy-Vee No Salt-Added Black Beans" due to potential presence of plastic and metal pieces within the product.
The presence of small pieces of plastic and metal can cause a choking hazard leading to possible adverse health consequences, including injury.
According to the report of Foods and Drugs Administration, the recall was ordered after a consumer reported finding a partial ink pen in one of the container. Faribault Foods, Inc., Hy-Vee's supplier quickly issued a recall order as a precautionary measure following the incident and claimed that the reported case is an isolated incident.
The voluntary recall is limited to 15-ounce cans of Hy-Vee No-Salt-Added Black Beans with the code "Best By 04 APR 2019 258F2 095 16 XXXX" and UPC number of 0075450105190. The product was sold at Hy-Vee stores in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin between April 22, 2016, and July 18, 2016.
The product was manufactured at the Faribault's facility in Minnesota. Faribault Minnesota facility supplies several major retailers across the United States, including Hy-Vee.
No other Hy-Vee products are affected in the recall. Hy-Vee is urging their customers who have purchased the recalled product to discard it or return it to their local Hy-Vee store for a full refund. Consumers with questions may also contact Hy-Vee Customer Care representatives 24 hours a day, seven days a week at 1-800-772-4098.
Although no injury from the recalled product has been reported, Fox News reported that Faribault Foods Inc. also issued a recall to other several canned black beans brands manufactured in their Faribault Minnesota facility.
These include La Preferida Low Sodium Black Beans (Frijoles Negros Bajo En Sodio), Our Family No-Salt-Added Black Beans, Sprouts No-Salt-Added Black Beans, Mrs. Grimes No-Salt-Added Black Beans, Kuner's No-Salt-Added Black Beans (Frijoles Negros) and HEB Black No-Salt-Added Beans (Frijol Negro Sin Sal).
