Friends Reveal Why Prince Chose to be a Low-Key Philanthropist

After the death of the 57-year old music legend, more people are coming out to testify how great the musician was. His friends started to reveal more advocacies he secretly supports, some of them explaining why Prince decided to keep most of his good deed in secret.

The Grist reported that Prince was funding green causes but he decided to keep it quiet. The causes include public radio, Black Lives Matter, Harlem Children's Zone, Green For All and he also founded the #YesWeCode, an advocacy training black children for possible work in tech industries.

His friend and CNN commentator Van Jones also released a tribute for Prince. He is also the founder of Green for All, an organization who aims to build a green economy, which is also fervently supported by Prince.

The Guardian stated that according to a report, a $50,000 anonymous donation started the philanthropist's secret donations to climate change and green energy causes.

In his tribute, he revealed that the musician's talent is not limited to singing; he said Prince was also a comedian. Jones also revealed that by rule, Prince doesn't want to swear. He said he was once reprimanded by Prince because of cursing, he said "You can't speak that way here." He raised one hand, palm toward me."

But one of the most endearing revelations was that Prince was a low-key philanthropist. Jones said the legend was "immensely charitable". He gives generous amount of money anonymously.

Being a Jehovah's Witness as his religion, Prince is technically not allowed to reveal his donations. But aside from monetary donations, Jones said Prince is active when it comes to the causes he supports "he made lots of calls behind the scenes to get people to act on causes that needed attention. He would see something in the news, and start calling people -- "We need to do something about this." He was kind of like the 911 of the celebrity class."

One of his passions is supporting #BlackLivesMatter according to Jones. Prince believes in young people. Jones said "His decision to launch YesWeCode.org was a part of his faith that young people, blessed with the right spirit and given the right tools, could change the world for the better."

Who knows, these are just some of the causes known to his friends, it is very likely that Prince supported other causes in secret. And it is evident that helping is a natural trait of Prince, whether in public's eye or in secret.
