An angler from the U.K. hooked a behemoth fish after a 90-minute struggle that ended well for both the man and the fish.

David Griffiths fought the 236 pound (107 kilogram) skate for an hour and a half before getting the fish out of the water at the beginning of the month.

"It was about halfway through the day and I had caught nothing. Then there was a click, click, click of the rod's reel - it was a classic Jaws moment," Griffiths said, according to the BBC.

It reportedly took four people to get the skate out of the water and on board the boat.

"The skate has a suction pad and was stuck to the sea bed 500ft below. After about 30 minutes it was within 100ft of the surface but then decided to go back down - it was a real battle."

The fish measured 91 inches (2.3 meters) from nose to tail and 71 inches (1.8 meters) wide.

Griffiths said he used a conversion chart to determine the weight of the skate, which he said bested the British record by eight pounds (3.6 kg). But his record will never be in any official books. For it to count the fish would have had to be killed and weighted on dry land.

"I don't agree with that, so I let the fish go after we'd taken a few photos."

To get the skate on his line, Griffiths said he used a mixed bait of squid and mackerel.
