Central and southeastern US will feel hotter to high temperature, forecasters said.
As areas in the United States are affected by heat waves, it is important to be prepared as excessive heat can cause health risks.
AccuWeather Meteorologist Adam Sadvary explained that temperatures could spike to 20 to 25 degrees Fahrenheit above normal.
Temperatures are expected to slowly and steadily increase because a cooling shower is very low. Sadvary said that what affected it was the ridge of high pressure (heat dome) that slowly continues over the central plains.
According to the National Ocean Service NOAA, a heat dome or cap traps heat on the surface, forming potential heat waves.
The effect of a heat dome can stay for days or weeks. It affects communities, livelihood, and animals feeling the temperature like an oven.
Affected areas
The same report reveals that
- Oklahoma, Missouri, and Nebraska can feel hotter temperatures through Tuesday.
- Wichita is expected to reach triple digits high temperature on Tuesday.
- Dallas and Austin, Texas, can experience temperatures a few degrees above normal.
- From Eastern Texas to Tennessee Valley, Memphis residents will suffer from an intense heatwave on Wednesday.
- Little Rock, Arkansas, Tyler, Texas, and Birmingham, Alabama, can have temperatures surging to 90.
The surge of humidity and weak winds can worsen the heat.
Moreover, the affected regions can feel lower temperatures at the official start of fall.

Hot temperatures
During a record-breaking temperature, it is important to be prepared.
World Health Organization (WHO) states heatwaves are considered a dangerous natural hazard. It explains that almost 166,000 people suffered and died from heat waves from 1998 to 2017. On the other hand, over 125 million people were said to be exposed to heatwaves from 2000 to 2016
Moreover, WHO stressed that the heat could affect livelihood, health, and power supply.
According to the American Red Cross, here are some of the tips during a heatwave:
- It is essential to be updated with the heat wave watch or alerts from your local weather forecasts.
- Stay hydrated at all times. Avoid drinking coffee or sugary products.
- Prepare for water and supplies. The heatwave may force you to drink more water. Organize enough water supply and food packs for your family. Also, prepare a bag with the medicines and necessary food supplies in case there is a need for an evacuation.
- Add insulation to your home for heat.
- Install air conditioners for home cooling. Cover your windows or glass doors with shades.
- American Red Cross emphasizes that if someone in your family shows signs of heat exhaustion, immediately seek medical assistance.
- Don't leave your pets or family members, especially people with disabilities, unattended inside your vehicle. The reason is cars can heat up.
- It is best to cut down on outdoor activities and exercise.
During a heatwave, there could be a potential power outage as most residents exhaust the power supply. It is best to keep a flashlight or solar lights if needed.
