According to a recent study, current climate reduction plans would result in long-term energy use disparities between both the Global North and the Global South.

The authors of the study contendef that these scenarios are politically unacceptable because of the disadvantages to the Global South.

The Working Group III Sixth Assessment report on climate change reduction was made public by the IPCC on April 4.

The report details how, despite advances in the clean energy revolution, countries are failing miserably to cut down on climate pollution at a rate that will prevent significant harm, expense, and turmoil.

The wealthy North must reduce their energy usage to sustainable levels while enabling a sufficient increase in energy use in the rest of the world in order to achieve a just energy revolution that keeps global warming below 1.5 or 2°C, as per ScienceDaily.

High levels of energy use in wealthy nations, mainly in the Global North, which far surpasses what is necessary to meet human needs, make the urgent challenge of climate reduction challenging.

According to the study, the top 5% of global income earners require more energy than the bottom 50% of the world's population combined.

In contrast, 780 million can't get access to electricity in the world's poorest countries, where more than 3 billion people live in energy poverty.

Aljoa Slamerak emphasized that a large portion of this surplus energy is used in industries that promote elite accumulation and corporate profits, including fast fashion, sports utility vehicles, industrial meat, and planned obsolescence, which have no bearing on wellbeing.

In the examined scenarios, it is assumed that countries in Africa and the Middle East will maintain their current energy consumption levels, or less than 30 gigajoules per person per year, for most of the century.

For the remainder of the century, the OECD nations and the rest of Europe will receive, on average, well over 100 gigajoules of energy per person annually.

In current reduction plans, the North's energy hegemony is maintained by restricting energy consumption in the South and betting on negative emissions technologies that are based on stealing biomass from the Global South's abundant forests.

Several ways to reduce Climate change

Sending a message that you are concerned about the warming climate is the single most important thing you can do to affect global climate change, as per NRDC.

Motivate Congress to pass new legislation that places a cap on carbon emissions and makes polluters responsible for the emissions they actually create.

Next, pick a utility company that gets at least half of its energy from solar or wind and has received certification from Green-e Energy.

This company evaluates renewable energy sources.

If you can't do that, check your electric bill. Many utilities now provide a list of additional strategies to facilitate renewable sources on their websites and monthly statements.

According to clean energy advocate Aliya Haq, one of the biggest energy consumers is heating and cooling buildings. Indeed, nearly half of household energy use goes toward heating and cooling.

You can increase the energy efficiency of your space by caulking cracks and making sure it has enough insulation.

Conserving water also lowers carbon emissions. This is due to how much energy is required to pump, heat, and treat your water.

As a result, cut the length of your showers, turn off the water while you brush your teeth, and use WaterSense-certified fixtures and appliances.

Lastly, never leave fully charged electronics plugged into your house's outlets; unplug rarely used electronics or place them on timers or power strips; and set your computers and monitors so that they automatically switch to the lowest power mode when not being used.
