A Florida owl has been rescued after it was trapped behind the grill of an SUV as the driver failed to notice the bird after hitting it.
Sonji Coney Williams was driving on the Florida turnpike at 60 miles per hour when an owl hit against her SUV. Feeling guilty of having killed the bird, Coney continued her journey as it was dark and the entire incident happened so quickly.
But it was not over, as the owl that was presumed dead after hitting against the vehicle actually managed to slide through the grills and stayed safe trapped inside it. She noticed the big yellow-eyed owl when a family flagged her down and said she had something stuck in her grill. She spotted one of the common species of Florida the 'great horned owl'.
"I've never experienced anything like this before in my life," Williams told WTVC as crew worked on getting the owl stuck in the grill back free and into the wild.
Coney called the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission for help. A wildlife officer was sent to free the bird. Everyone was amused as the bird had no injuries.
The story of the owl stuck in the grill was a hit on the Internet, with several outlets picking up the story and stations from Florida to North Carolina featuring the story, reports inquisitr.
