The United Kingdom is experiencing a rare phenomenon as snowfall transforms the landscape into a winter wonderland. Streets, cars, and trees are covered with a thick layer of snow, creating a stunning scenery that captivates the eyes of many.
However, this beautiful sight also comes with a beastly challenge: how to navigate through the snow.
The Beauty and the Beast of Snow
Snow is not a common occurrence in the UK, especially in the south, where most of the population lives. According to the Met Office, the UK gets an average of 23.7 days of snowfall or sleet a year, but most of it does not settle on the ground.
The last time the UK had a significant amount of snow was in 2018, when the "Beast from the East" brought freezing temperatures and heavy snow across the country.
This year, the UK is facing another cold snap, thanks to a blast of chilly weather from the Arctic. Weather forecasters WX Charts have predicted substantial snowfall over higher ground in northwest England, some parts of central Wales and western Scotland on Thursday - while many areas in the south will see heavy rain instead.
Northern Ireland also joined in the snowy dance towards the end of the day.

The Heroes of the Snow
With snow comes challenge. The nation is not just witnessing nature's artistry, but also facing the trials that come with it. Snow ploughs and gritters are becoming the heroes of the snow, as they work tirelessly to clear roads for safe passage.
The Department for Transport has deployed more than 500 salt spreaders and 1,000 snow ploughs across England to deal with the icy conditions.
The Highways England has also advised drivers to check their vehicles before travelling, and to drive with extra care and caution.
More snow showers are expected to sweep on Friday, affecting many of the same areas, with a few more additions, including southwest England and Yorkshire.
The wintry weather will last into the early hours of Saturday, before conditions begin to clear in most parts of the UK.
The snow may cause some disruption and inconvenience, but it also brings some joy and fun.
Many people have taken to social media to share their photos and videos of building snowmen, having snowball fights, and enjoying the rare sight of snow.
Some have even praised the snow ploughs and gritters for their hard work and dedication.
Weather Alert: Preparing for Severe Weather Conditions
The Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain across the West Midlands, South Wales and south-west England until 2pm on Thursday, as heavy downpours and strong gusts could bring flooding and disruption to parts of England and Wales.
Some places are forecast to see 20-30mm of rain, which could cause localised flooding and travel delays. The warning also advises people to be aware of the potential for power cuts and damage to trees and buildings.
The Met Office has also issued a yellow warning for wind for parts of Scotland and Northern Ireland, where gusts of up to 70mph are expected.
