A wintry weather outlook can hit portions of the Southern US, causing the first snowflakes and a colder outlook as the year ends.
The National Weather Service (NWS) reported that a low-pressure area can likely hit parts of the Northeastern US, bringing gusty winds and flooding rain in New Jersey and New England.
According to weather reports, the winter storm will likely weaken this late week. However, homeowners should still stay alert for a cold front in the Pacific Northeast, bringing a wintry mix and colder conditions.
In the Southern US, people should witness the first snowflakes as December ends. The chilly outlook can also result in cold-related health concerns, such as hypothermia and frostbite.
Rain can also spread over the Plains and Interstate 70 corridor, including in Illinois and Missouri. On Interstates 44 and 45, the wintry outlook can unload in portions of Kentucky and Cape Girardeau, Missouri.
Weather in the Southern US: Where Will Wintry Mix Unload?
On Friday, homeowners can expect a slow-moving storm in the Southern US. A slick travel outlook is still likely. Snow showers can likely unload in the following areas:
- Indianapolis
- Evansville
- Nashville
- Huntsville
- Memphis
Intermittent snow is also likely in St. Louis, Davenport and Springfield. On Friday, the chilly weather outlook can spread to Atlanta, Montgomery, Jacksonville, Tampa, New Orleans and Jackson.
Americans should monitor the development of slow-moving wintry conditions. The NWS Discussion reported a scattered mix of snow and rain central to the eastern US.
In the Mid-Atlantic and Southern New England, heavy rain and flood threats can unfold. Northern and Central Plains can unleash blizzard conditions and light snow.
The Great Lakes and Midwest can experience the chance of mixed rain and wet snow. Residents can expect heavy snow and a freezing outlook. Plants and plumbing systems can suffer from a freezing outlook.

Eastern US: Where Will Rainstorm Unload?
In the Eastern US, 3 to 6 inches of snow will likely hit parts of the Eastern US, including in parts of Mid-Atlantic, Southern New England and Western North Carolina.
On Thursday morning, river and street flooding can cause travel concerns. Rounds of heavy rain can unload in the following areas:
- Albany
- Syracuse
- Boston
- Hartford
- New York City
- Philadelphia
- Scranton
- Pittsburgh
In the late week, a colder outlook will likely hit in the following areas:
- Richmond
- Washington
- New York City
- Albany
- Philadelphia
- Charleston
- Detroit
- Buffalo
- Indianapolis
