Researchers discovered a new species of snake in Peru, which has scattered black spots and yellowish-brown looking. It is named after the famous Harrison Ford from Indiana Jones.
The new snake species has a scientific name Tachymenoides harrisonfordi. The discovery of new species has been crucial in uncovering unknown species in science.
Scientists and experts can develop their population status when species are discovered, especially when species are on the brink of decline.
According to the study published in the Journal of Herpetology, researchers looked into the rarely explored areas in the Ototishi National Park in Peru. The site has been home to different species and biodiversity.
Yellowish-brown looking snake in Peru
The researchers conducted a herpetological survey near the Southern part of the Ototishi National Park in Peru to map further and understand the area in May 2022. On the site, they found a new species of snake belonging to the genus of Tachymenoides.
According to the report, biologist Edgar Lehr and his team first discovered the new snake species. It was named after the famous actor. Harrison Ford from the action movie Indiana Jones.'
The site was challenging to access, considering the landscape. As a result, the researchers flew to the area using a helicopter. They confirmed the new species of snake using phylogenetic analyses.
The species sample has 407 mm total length, with a yellowish-brown color looking with black spots around his body.
When the researchers examined the new snake, they saw its smooth dorsal scales without apical pits.
There are also animals named after the legendary actor Ford from Indiana Jones, like a spider and an ant.
Peru's forests and birds
Peru is a place for unique species of bats and birds. In the recent research published in Ecological Applications, researchers found the role of animals in protecting the dry forests and cacao yield in the Northern part of the country.
Birds and bats act as biocontrol animals to help protect cacao in the area. Pest control can become expensive for farmers and affect their crop yields.
Biocontrol can offer benefits to increase crop yields and prevent pests. The productivity in cacao can help more farmers in Northern Peru, especially the country that is known for its cacao industry.
In addition, the role of birds has been important for trees. They help sow seeds in trees, ensuring it remains healthy from potential threats.

Conservation of animals
According to a report published in Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society B, animal seed dispersal is crucial to restore forests. Animals serve as natural engineers to protect the environment and indicators of healthy biodiversity.
Amidst the increasing threats in forests, reforestation is vital in saving forests from possible decline.
In seeds, animals can assist in dispersing at least 80% of tree species.
