Siberian cats are considered to be the national cats of Russia, where its cold temperatures have allowed the Siberian Forest Cat to develop its thick fur down the evolutionary ladder. Also called as Moscow longhairs, Siberians are in fact a good pet cat breed with a heart-warming record of having fun and playing around with their human owners.

Prior to being domesticated by humans, Russia's native forest cats first appeared about 1000 AD wherein it is believed they have long existed in the dense forests of Siberia, a massive Russian province which covers most of the land in Northern Asia. The region is not only known as the residence of the Siberian Forest cats but also a site of untapped greenhouse gases and prehistoric fossils frozen under ice.

In terms of being a household cat or pet cat, anecdotal evidence and reports suggest that Siberian cats are sociable cats who wants to be near their owners. They felines also enjoy the company of children, dogs, and even other animals, showing a calm attitude even amid distractions, according to the Cat Fanciers' Association, Inc. (CFA).

Is a Siberian cat a good pet?

Siberian cats are "lovable" and "loyal family companions" who have a track record of getting along well with children and even other pets, according to the pet website Daily Paws.

In terms of being an indoor cat, the Russian cat breed does well when living in multi-pet household or even when left on their own, including for reasons involving going to work or school. This is according to the said website, which estimated the Siberian cat lifespan between 8 to 10 years.

What is Siberian cat lifespan?

There is no specific age or figure when it comes to the Siberian cat lifespan. However, the common lifespan in general is at least a decade, making it a reasonable long life for a pet cat, according to the pet section of WebMD website.

Other sources, such as the Guinness World Records estimated that domesticated cats reach an average lifespan of 15 years. Guinness recorded the world's oldest living cat named Corduroy as 26 years old back in 2015, but the feline died as the world's oldest cat as 27 years old in 2016 that time.

In 2022, Guinness recognized Flossie the cat as officially the oldest living cat after turning 27 years old. Meanwhile, the oldest cat in recorded history is named Crème Puff, who died in 2005 reaching the age of 38 years.

Do Siberian cats get attached to one person?

According to the CFA, Siberian cats are very personable, in addition to them possessing high intelligence, which means they are attach to their owners. This makes them a great choice as emotional support animals (you can learn more about ESAs here).

Yet, like mentioned before, Siberian Forest cats can also bond with other humans in a household. Just like with other cats, animal behaviorists assert that constant verbal and physical interaction with pet cats can help them connect with us further.
