According to a recent report, 10 missing skiers were finally rescued after an avalanche occurred in Western Austria.

Emergency teams were immediately deployed in a resort of Lech-Zuers in the Western part of Austria after an avalanche unfolded while ten skiers were in the area.

At first, the report said that the ten skiers could have been buried in the heavy snow as they could not locate any signs of life.

According to the BBC, local reports said that emergency teams, searchlights and helicopters were there to help with the rescue operations.

Experts and trained avalanche dogs were also deployed in the operations, thinking there could still be survivors.

After the efforts of the emergency team, they finally found the ten skiers in the area who were feared dead and buried in the snow.

The BBC further reported that no more people were missing after the ten people were rescued from the avalanche.

Avalanches could be life-threatening and disastrous, affecting skiers, tourists and communities. The impact could result in devastating effects and deaths.

Although an avalanche could occur unexpectedly, it is important to know important emergencies and tips that could help you and your family.

If it rains or there is a severe winter condition, it is best to reschedule your trip to the mountain. Furthermore, mountain snow hazards could be life-threatening, and it is best to wait until they abate.

Roads could be impassable when there is heavy mountain snow or severe weather. Furthermore, the weather could be extremely cold. Prolonged exposure to cold weather could lead to hypothermia and frostbite.

Avalanche preparations

While an avalanche could be extremely difficult and life-threatening, knowing what you could do in said emergencies would be helpful.

An avalanche beacon would be helpful for rescuers can locate you. In addition, a helmet will protect your head from potential injuries.

Furthermore, keeping a small shovel is recommended.

Report for immediate assistance

If any of your team or friend is stranded or caught up in an avalanche, you must report immediately to authorities by providing your exact location. Also, the same step should happen if anyone is injured due to an avalanche or snow-related disaster.

Use your emergency mountain kit

If you are in the middle of severe weather conditions or become stranded. Immediately report to local authorities or emergency teams. If any member is injured, monitor the injured person for potential hypothermia.

A small shovel could also be helpful to rescue any of your friends who became stranded. Only help with the rescue if you are trained.

It could unload heavy snow during severe weather conditions, and mountain snow hazards and an avalanche could be possible. Be mindful of the weather forecasts, especially if you plan to ski and travel on snow-prone mountains.
