According to weather experts, there will be a marginal risk for severe storms over Metro Detroit with some sharp temperature drops through the week, from the 70s on Thursday down to chilly 30s by Friday.

A warm front moved up and over the area last night bringing the showers and storms with a different feel in the air.

Temperatures are in the middle and upper 60s around with mostly cloudy skies but fewer and fewer showers, for now. Experts recommend bringing an umbrella today when going out.

Although the Metro Detroit area badly needs to soak, it looks like downpour is not in the cards for some areas.

Prepare to warm up pretty quickly today as warm air, increased humidity, and brisk warm breezes will affect Metro Detroit. Expect highs in the middle to upper 80s, which will feel warmer or like 90 due to the added humidity.

Cold Front

Throughout the late morning, a cold front will be moving in, which could be the catalyst for a few strong to severe storms in addition to scattered storms. The Storm Prediction Center has designated areas along and south of I-94 as being at a Marginal Risk for severe storms, so be prepared for some rain from 11 AM to 4 PM.

That is the lowest risk category, but a few storms with damaging winds could develop and pop up near the Ohio border. Midday severe storms are a Slight Risk or better bet for Lenawee and Monroe counties, and the worst of it all could move south into northern Ohio just passing off of Lake Erie.

The radars will be closely monitored by weather experts. Late north winds will cool the weather, but it will become less dangerous later in the afternoon and through the evening.

The sun will set into the night at 7:32 PM.

Dramatic Weather Shifts

Only in Michigan can one experience such abrupt changes in the weather, and Thursday will bring a sharp drop in temperature and windy conditions. Mostly north into the Thumb, the region won't experience temperatures higher than the middle 60s under partly cloudy skies that will only become partly sunny throughout the day.

Those winds will blow in from the NW at 10 to 20 gusting 20-30 mph. Fall officially begins tomorrow with the Autumnal Equinox at 9:04 PM and we are colder than par for the course.

Friday Temperature Drops

The first widespread occurrence of crisp lower 40s in a while will occur on Friday, which means some of the farther-flung suburbs may experience morning lows that play around the chilly 30s.

With plenty of morning sun, a nice mix of sun and clouds, and temperatures between 65 and 70 degrees in the middle of the afternoon, afternoon highs will rebound nicely.

Weekend Showers

Computer model data predicts showers for Sunday afternoon or evening, so the weekend may bring a few showers.

The region should experience low 70s for both of the weekend days, with dry weather on Saturday before the chance of rain on Sunday, Click On Detroit reports.
