Laser hair removal both professional and at home has been touted as the hair removal method with one of the most long-lasting results. For this reason, you may be considering this as an option.

We will get into everything that you can expect after your laser hair removal procedure.

What you can expect- Professional services

If you are not familiar, laser hair removals generally require at least two to six treatments. This means that you will be undergoing treatment for at least two to six weeks on areas with fast-growing hair and every twelve to sixteen weeks on areas where the hair stays away longer.

You can expect:

Irritation or discomfort

After each procedure, you may notice some redness or swelling in the area that you got the procedure done. Usually, ice packs can help to alleviate any discomfort. In select cases, your laser hair removal technician or doctor may apply a steroid cream to the area if you had a negative skin reaction. Within a few hours into a day, things should subside.

Advice

In some cases, your doctor may advise you to stay out of direct sunlight for a few days and to use sun lotion with SPF30, should you need to. You may also be told to not use a tanning bed for at least six weeks.

If you are curious to know, this advice is given because the sun, as well as tanning, may cause your skin to become more sensitive to heat. And when paired with laser hair removal, you may experience burning, scarring, and even hyperpigmentation.

Your results

After your procedure, you will start to notice results over a few days to a few weeks. Results are not immediate and in some cases, it may take a few treatments before you fully see results.

There is no guarantee for permanent results, however, you may notice that new growth becomes finer and less visible.

What you can expect - At-home services

Yes! You can do laser hair removal treatments at home. There are many devices that use a specified technology to deliver amazing hair removal service from the comfort of your home and in some cases, it may be less damaging to your skin.

You can expect:

Minor irritation

After an at home laser hair removal service, you can expect some amount of minor irritation or discomfort. While this will not be as painful as other methods, it is a possibility. You can apply an ice pack to help with any discomfort until it subsides.

Advice

Similar to the professional service, you may be advised by the manual or otherwise to avoid using a tanning bed for at least 48 hours. You should not tan while within the 48 hours before or after your treatment.

Results

Similar to the professional service it may take a few treatments for you to start seeing results, perhaps three to four of them. While not immediate results are usually long-lasting. And, should be completely noticeable after completing all of your treatments.

Closing

Whether you get a professional laser hair removal service or do an at home treatment, you can expect roughly the same after-effects. You may feel some pain or discomfort after treatment but it will subside. You may also be warned against using artificial tans for 48 hours, in rare cases for up to a few weeks.  As well as told to avoid direct sunlight. And, though results are not immediate you should start noticing them after a few laser hair removal treatments.
