Australia is home to some of the most renowned beaches in the world, Bronte and Coogee just to name a few. If you're off across the pond on holiday or to settle down over there for a longer period of time, there's no doubt you will want to experience the soft sand and turquoise waters that this country boasts.
If you're taking your pet to Australia with you the last thing you want to do is leave your beloved pooch at home while you go off on your explorations. They deserve a trip to the seaside just as much as you do and a run along the beach, with the wind in their hair, will make them the happiest pup there could be.
The good news is, there are plenty of dog-friendly beaches in Australia that both you and your waggy tailed companion can enjoy. Why not treat your best friend to a fun-filled day at one of these stunning Australian beaches during the 'dog days of summer'?
Tallow Beach - Byron Bay
Byron Bay is one of the most popular coastal towns to hit in the southeastern Australian state of New South Wales. It's known for its perfect beaches and surfing and the good news is that if you want to visit, your pooch can go too.
Tallow Beach, a 6km long sandy beach is located just south of the famous Cape Byron Lighthouse. This beach is popular for fishing, whale watching and for dog walkers. There's also a designated off-leash dog exercise area in the Suffolk Park section so your pup can run free and enjoy the beach with new friends.
Four Mile Beach - Port Douglas
If your destination is Cairns in the North of Queensland, push just a little bit further north to the tropical resort town of Port Douglas and you'll find some incredible golden sunbathing spots. This includes Four Mile Beach where dogs can roam the entire stretch of beach as long as they're on a lead. However, there's also a section just south of the Four Mile Park in Barrier Street where dogs can stroll off the lead.
St Kilda Beach - Melbourne
Your four-legged friend is welcomed with open arms at Melbourne's most renowned beach. It's only a short tram ride from the city centre and is home to an amusement park and other attractions including a bustling café scene. It also has three off-lead areas where your pooch can run about and even venture into the sea if it's brave enough. Dogs are allowed on the main stretch of St Kilda Beach during the wintertime but are restricted during the summer months.
Peasholm Dog Beach - Scarborough
Like the name suggests, this clear water, soft sand beach in the coastal suburb of Perth is one of Western Australia's favourite dog beaches. The water is shallow for a fair way out so your doggo can cool its paws in the ocean and play with other friendly pups.
This dog-friendly beach also stretches into North Floreat Beach, which is another pooch friendly area full of freshwater taps so your dog can enjoy a refreshment.
There are plenty of beaches in Australia for both you and your furry friend to appreciate. These are just a few of the many just make sure you check before you go as the rules do vary at these beaches.
