The December Supermoon, the final lunar event of the year, has been expected by people around the globe. The supermoon or "cold moon" happened on Tuesday and stargazers took this opportunity to snap great photographs of the rare celestial event.
A supermoon or perigee full moon occurs when the moon is at its closest point to Earth, making it appear 14 percent bigger and 30 percent brighter than in normal days. A previous report from Nature World News says that the supermoon would occur at the same time as the Geminid Meteor Shower.
Space.com also notes that the December supermoon appeared at the "lower horn tip of the constellation Taurus," not far from the constellation Gemini, where the Geminid meteor shower is expected to peak.
Here are some astonishing photos of the highly anticipated December supermoon taken from different parts of the world.
