No, Space Aliens are Not Communicating Through Strange Signals From Stars

The discovery of strange signals detected by two scientists has brightened the day of alien enthusiasts and researchers. The scientists claim that the strange light pulses coming from hundreds of stars can be explained by the presence of Extraterrestrial Intelligence trying to convey some sort of message.

However, scientists at UC Berkeley SETI Research Center remained skeptic of the discovery, advising people to be cautious of the newest alien claim.

"The one in 10,000 objects with unusual spectra seen by Borra and Trottier are certainly worthy of additional study," UC Berkeley wrote in a statement. "However, extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. It is too early to unequivocally attribute these purported signals to the activities of extraterrestrial civilizations."

The study that rekindled the possibility of aliens communicating through strange signals was published in the journal Publications of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific. The findings of the researchers were based analysis of 2.5 million spectra in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey.

The researchers observed that 234 of the stars surveyed have signals in the form of light pulses. Two French-Canadian scientists by the name EF Borra and E Trottier interpreted the light bursts to be rotational transitions in molecules, rapid pulsations, Fourier transform of spectral lines and signals generated by Extraterrestrial Intelligence (ETI). The duo found that the existence of ETI sending some sort of message is the most likely explanation of the strange light burst.

SETI scientists, despite being skeptical, noted that additional studies are needed to further understand the source of the light burst. They are planning to observe some of the stars that generated the strange light burst using eight-foot optical telescope called the Automated Planet Finder.

Additionally, candidates for evidence of advance life beyond Earth should be first confirmed by two or more independent detections. All natural explanation of detected anomalies should also be exhausted first before being qualified as evidence of extraterrestrial intelligence.
