The continues advancement in space technology requires calculated steps and complex maneuvers to complete, like the installation of the new kind of docking port to the International Space Station (ISS).
Last July, SpaceX delivered cargo to space including the docking port that will be used in the new few years for the new breed of space capsules that can transport crew to space including the ones currently being developed by SpaceX and Boeing.
NASA is ready to share the history as it unfolds when the agency announced that the installation of the new docking port will be televised and will be available for viewing around the world. NASA TV will air the space walk to install the port on Friday, Aug. 19, according to the agency's press release.
Walking in space alone poses a threat to the astronauts performing their duty, but the new mission of installing a dock into the ISS adds to the level of difficulties that astronauts will need to survive in order to perform their duty.
The docking port will serve as the new gateway at the ISS. The coverage that will record the intricate spacewalk to install the port will start at 6:30 am on Aug. 19 on NASA television (NASA TV). The briefing for the event will also be conducted on the same day at the Johnson Space Center at 2:00 pm.
During the briefing, key individuals concerned with the project will discuss the important points of the mission; the list includes Kenneth Todd, the International Space Station Operations Integration manager, Steve Stich, deputy manager of NASA's Commercial Crew Program, Zeb Scoville, spacewalk flight director and Glenda Brown, lead spacewalk officer, according to PR Newswire.
