SpaceX and its spacecraft serve as NASA's resupply vehicle to the International Space Station. Their task is to transport goods, cargo and even expandable modules to space. This affirms the capability of SpaceX to transport cargo to space.
Space and renewable energy tycoon, Elon Musk, and his company wanted to offer more, for $62 million, anyone can send their cargo to Mars.
Musk is not joking when he offered the cargo service to Mars. SpaceX's service could potentially help transport materials for Mars and the ongoing habitation plans for commercial and government agencies. This could be possible once the Journey to Mars mission proves to be successful. Scientists and experts admit that although this is a long shot, there is indeed a possibility that the cargo service to Mars might just be useful to mankind.
The first SpaceX price list was published this year, according to a report by Daily Mail. Both Falcon 9 and Falcon Heavy rockets can deliver cargo to space, but the recent update to their price list now includes 'Mars payload.'
This is the first time that a commercial cargo service offered to send cargo to an entirely different planet. The report added that Falcon 9 will carry cargo to Mars to up to 8.860 lbs (4,020 kg) for $62 million, while the Falcon Heavy can carry 29,980 lbs (13,600 kg) for $90 million.
SpaceX is cutting the cost of space travels by reusing their space shuttles. Their recent attempts to land the rockets on solid ground turned out to be successful.
According to their official website, the usual business for SpaceX means sending cargo load to Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) and the Geosynchronous Transfer Orbit (GTO). SpaceX' recent move to include the 'Payload for Mars' is an affirmation of its confidence that men can indeed reach and potentially conquer the red planet.
SpaceX founder, engineer and innovator Elon Musk, had always shown a fascination towards the red planet, that is why the inclinations of his company toward Mars are not surprising. "Now is the first time in the history of Earth that the window is open, where it's possible for us to extend life to another planet," said Musk in a statement.
