There's a shocking video making waves on the internet, showing around 70 tiger sharks devouring a humpback whale. The incident happened off the coast of Western Australia last week and it was literally a blood bath.
According to WA Today, The footage was accidentally captured by a GoPro camera and a drone by Eco Abrolhos Cruises. The said tour company was supposed to be filming Shark Bay, but what they stumbled upon was more shocking.
"Passengers on our 14 day Geraldton to Broome and everywhere in between were treated to an unexpected phenomena whilst cruising inside Dirk Hartog Island. Something to show and tell the Grandchildren," the company wrote on its Facebook page.
The drone operator, Jay Cox, recalled how a small boat came rushing past their group of 15 tourists, saying that a large group of sharks was eating a whole whale just a few meters away.
"We immediately went there and hung around for two hours. We got as close to the sharks as we wanted," Mr Cox said. "It was absolutely amazing."
Huffington Post notes that Shark Bay, located around 500 miles north of Perth, is known to be the habitat of a big population of sharks as well as other endangered species. These include the green and loggerhead turtles, dugong and other manatees.
It was not confirmed if the sharks killed the whale or it was already dead when they devoured it.
Neil Edwards, one of the tourists who saw the incident, said as per CBS News, "This was truly amazing to witness this act of nature. The drone and GoPro footage far exceeded my videos and pictures. Thank you Jay and crew for taking us here to view this incredible feeding frenzy."
