Having reached the Mount Everest's summit for six times, Lhakpa Sherpa is the greatest female Everest climber the world has had. And as if six is not enough yet, the 42-year-old mother is off to the peak for the seventh time.
With an elevation of 8,848 meters, the earth's highest mountain is considered a monster for climbers, yet the mother of three who lives in Connecticut does not seem to be intimidated.
A native of Nepal, Telegraph noted that Lhakpa is not known because her mountaineering achievements do not frequently get recognition.
Until a few days ago, the Wikipedia page that catalogs Everest records did not mention Lhakpa's achievements in the website.
In an interview with Outside Magazine, Lhakpa shared that she came from an abusive marriage with a fellow climber who mounted Everest nine times.
The article claims that an abusive encounter between her and her ex-husband was publicized once in a paper, which made her shy away more from the public.
At a young age, she already had a burning desire to conquer the mountain, saying she wanted to follow the footsteps of the great old climber, Pasang Lhamu, the first Nepali woman to reach the top of Mount Everest.
Lhakpa first climb in 2000 and the five expeditions (2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006) together with her ex-husband.
Despite all that has happened, Lhakpa wanted to be portrayed as a happy woman. Lhakpa's courage and unstoppable will to do impossible things like conquering Mount Everest for the seventh time, will be embedded in history.
Reports said she is currently at Advanced Base Camp in Tibet and due to make her seventh ascent on May 20 or 21.
