You've probably seen a dog prance around on two legs before. It's a common sight at the circus and a trick dog trainers typically like to teach little poodles in tutus. But what about a dog who was born that way? The Aloha Vet, our friend Dr Scott Sims, had the pleasure of meeting one such dog earlier this year. He helped outfit her with a little extra support as old age creeps in.
The Chihuahua named Babe is one incredible sight to behold. A resident of Oahu, Hawaii, Babe was born with only two unsteady back legs, and yet she has persevered.
"When bade was born... she had an instinct to survive," Warren, Babe's owner explains in the latest episode of Aloha Vet, on Nat Geo Wild. "She shows an attitude like 'this disability doesn't matter.'"
As a source of inspiration bound to also put a smile on a child's face, Warren and Babe even occasionally visit Children's hospitals and elementary schools.
However, Warren and Sims are worried that now at seven years of age (the equivalent of being 44 for humans), Babe may start to lose what little mobility she has, especially as inevitable problems like arthritis and knee problems set in. After all, regardless of how cute it is, Chihuahua legs aren't meant to work the way Babe uses them.
So what's to be done?

Some are calling Sims "one of Hawii's best kept local secrets." That's because aside from being a vet who will try anything, he also is willing to travel anywhere to see a job through.
Some clients live in hard-to-reach locations, but if an animal needs help, Sims always finds a way to get there, even if he has to walk, ride a horse, drive an ATV, fly a plane or swim. It's a wild job that's an adventure every day. "Aloha Vet" airs Saturdays at 9 PM ET/PT on Nat Geo WILD.
