Mount Etna in Italy erupted on Tuesday evening, shooting hot ash and lava into the night sky, making an elaborate spectacle which was caught on camera. Mount Etna eruptions are frequent, with its most recent eruption occurring on Feb. 28, often causing Italian Airlines and other airlines travelling in and out the country to experience delays.
The National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology in Italy recently said that Mount Etna is experiencing an increase in explosive activity recently, according to the Telegraph. On Feb. 19-20, the volcano experienced three outbursts in just 36 hours.
The Italian peak is by best count one of 1,511 volcanoes considered active, according to the site, which monitors volcanoes and volcanic activity and is hosted on the website of Oregon State University.
There are several inhabited villages on the slopes of Mount Etna - which is almost 10 thousand feet high.
There were no reports of any injuries though.
