The BMW standard factory warranty covers only the first few years. After that, if you do not have the extended BMW warranty plan, you may pay a lot of money for minor repairs and maintenance. Extended warranties come in handy when you want to maintain your budget and have peace of mind at the same time. In this article, we will get to know about the extended warranty plans of the BMW, items, and systems covered by it and is it worth considering or not.

What is the BMW extended car warranty?

An extended warranty for a BMW means your vehicle will be covered against breakdown or mechanical failure of the systems or parts over the standard factory warranty period. BMW offers three levels of extended warranty plans: gold, platinum, and power train plus coverage plan. These plans are limited to up to 7 years or 1 Lac miles covered by the vehicle.

One thing should be kept in mind that the extended warranty coverage plan has to be purchased before the original factory warranty expires. Moreover, car owners will have to pay an amount of 50 USD at the time of each repair. However, owners can transfer the warranty plan if they want to sell their vehicle. There is a transfer fee of up to 200 USD in some cases.

What is covered by an extended BMW warranty?

Coverage of items and systems depends upon the level of the warranty plan. The platinum plan covers the most, and the power train plus plan covers the least. The platinum warranty plan covers all the major components and systems such as engine, electrical, final drive assembly, transmission, brakes, cooling, induction, fuel system, steering, heating, air-conditioning, interior, exterior, and infotainment system. However, the gold warranty plan does not cover the infotainment system and offers limited electrical, interior, and exterior coverage.

On the other hand, the power train plus plan offers limited coverage for all the components and systems except the transfer case and induction system. Moreover, it does not cover steering, brakes, heating, air conditioning, interior, exterior, and infotainment system.

What is not covered by an extended BMW warranty?

Before purchasing an extended warranty plan for your BMW, it should be kept in mind that any warranty plan does not cover the parts subjected to normal wear and tear. These parts include brake pads, wiper blades, oil, and filters.

How much do BMW extended warranties cost?

The cost of BMW extended warranties depends upon various factors, such as the plan you choose and your car's model. Since BMW is a luxury brand, its parts and systems cost way more than other models. Before purchasing an extended warranty for your BMW, you should have a rough estimate ranging from 1500 USD to 3500 USD in your mind.
